DESCRIPTION

Designed alongside the Flying V™ and Moderne™ in 1957, the Futura™ was Gibson’s bold step into futuristic guitar design. Never released commercially in the late ’50s and limited to only a handful of prototypes, the Futura is one of the rarest designs in Gibson history and the direct ancestor of the Explorer™.

The Gibson Custom 1957 Mahogany Futura Reissue is a faithful recreation of those original prototypes, featuring a solid mahogany body with the original angular Futura shape and a mahogany neck carved to a 50s Vintage profile. The unbound Indian rosewood fingerboard hosts 22 reissue frets with classic cellulose dot inlays, delivering a familiar vintage feel and response.

Powered by a pair of unpotted Custombucker™ humbuckers with Alnico 3 magnets, this instrument delivers warm, articulate vintage tones with exceptional clarity and dynamic response. The electronics are hand-wired with CTS® vintage-taper potentiometers and a period-correct phone book capacitor for authentic late-50s performance.

Finished in Antique Natural nitrocellulose lacquer with VOS-treated gold hardware, the guitar captures the look and feel of a true new-old-stock instrument from the golden era. A Lifton™ historic brown and pink hardshell case is included.
