Indépendamment du fait que George Harrison et Eric Clapton ont porté une '64 SG™ Standard, cette année modèle était clairement une référence pour les SG en général. Le vibrato encombrant à traction latérale a été remplacé par le fiable Maestro™ Vibrola. Les profils du manche ont augmenté en taille, ressemblant au profil trouvé sur les Les Pauls™ de 1959. Et l'équilibre, la jouabilité et le look de la SG semblaient prendre tout leur sens. Pour toutes ces raisons, le Gibson Custom Shop est fier de présenter la réédition SG Standard de 1964. Outre le Maestro Vibrola et le profil du manche épais, il possède toutes les spécifications vintage hyper précises que l'on peut souhaiter : méthodes de construction originales, plastiques recréés chimiquement, répliques électroniques, et bien plus encore. Le résultat est peut-être la réédition SG la plus esthétique, la plus agréable et la plus sonore à ce jour. Il présente également un vieillissement ultra léger réalisé par les artisans qualifiés du Murphy Lab. Le traitement de finition Murphy Lab Ultra Light Aged, associé à du matériel légèrement vieilli, simule des décennies d'usure légère, lui donnant le caractère, l'ambiance et la sensation uniques d'un exemple original de la Gibson Golden Era.
