Dimitri Pohu

Dimitri started studying drums at the age of 17. It is only at the age of 30 that he decides to devote himself to it full time and to make it his profession. He then studied at the Vincent d'Indy college to learn the basics of music. He was then part of a jazz band. This will be his field of study at Concordia University where he will spend 3 years in jazz interpretation. He studied under Dizzie Gillespie's drummer, Nassyr Abdul Al-Khabyyr. He learns jazz and jazz fusion which is his real passion.

Afterwards, he divided his time between teaching drums and percussion (djembe, bongos and congas) and performing in various situations (jazz, rock, metal, pop). He also accompanies the students during the end of year concerts. He has now been teaching for almost 20 years.

He is particularly fond of polyrhythm and the double bass drum. Jazz fusion allows him to use a more technical style of playing while incorporating the improvisational side of jazz.

His teaching is based on the discovery of the instrument in a personalized way to the student in order to allow him to develop his potential according to his respective tastes. The passion of the instrument is at the heart of his teaching.
