The 1957 Les Paul™ Goldtop is revered as one of the most influential instruments of Gibson’s first Golden Age, celebrated for its power, its purity, and the unmistakable voice that helped define an era of electric guitar tone. This 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue, Light Aged, Double Gold, is part of the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection—a curated selection of unique instruments inspired by decades of Made to Measure orders and the artistry of the Gibson Custom Shop team in Nashville, Tennessee. It captures everything players love about an early Les Paul while offering the nuance, character, and individuality that only a Gibson Custom limited run can deliver.
Crafted with a solid mahogany body and a maple top, this Les Paul embodies the depth, presence, and style that made the originals so sought after. Its Light Aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish, meticulously applied and aged by the Murphy Lab, brings the look and feel of a well-loved vintage instrument, complete with soft edges, gentle checking, and seasoned character that only time—or a Murphy Lab artisan—can create. Paired with period-correct single-ply binding and classic styling, the result is a guitar that feels instantly familiar and effortlessly inspiring.
The mahogany neck features the commanding 1950s Chunky D neck profile and a long neck tenon, providing players with the substantial grip and resonance that define late ’50s playability. A rosewood fretboard with cellulose trapezoid inlays, medium jumbo frets, and a 24.75-inch scale length all contribute to the authentic feel. The nylon nut and 12-inch fretboard radius complete a setup that is both vintage-correct and comfortable in your hands.
Electronics are anchored by a Custombucker Alnico 3 in the neck position and a Custombucker Plus Alnico 3 in the bridge. Together, they deliver unmistakable late-’50s clarity and warmth, with plenty of added drive and presence when pushed hard. Wired with two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way toggle switch, this configuration offers a broad tonal palette suitable for everything from delicate cleans to rich, harmonically complex overdrive. Zebra bobbins with no pickup covers lend a distinctive visual edge while staying true to the model’s vintage-inspired character.
Nickel hardware, including an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Stop Bar tailpiece, plus True Historic aged black plastics, Kluson® Deluxe tuners, and gold Top Hat knobs, complete the period-authentic build. Each guitar includes a Certificate of Authenticity and a Lifton™ reissue hardshell case.
This limited-run 1957 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue, Light Aged, Double Gold honors one of the most iconic instruments in Gibson history while offering collectors and players a uniquely crafted expression of a timeless classic.
