Part of the Gibson Custom Limited Edition Collection, the 1963 Firebird™ VII Reissue, Gloss, in Double Gold celebrates one of the most distinctive and forward-thinking designs to emerge from 1960s Gibson craftsmanship. Inspired by years of Made to Measure special orders and the artistry of the Gibson Custom Shop luthiers in Nashville, Tennessee, this limited-run model revisits the era when bold design, sleek contours, and cutting-edge electronics combined to redefine what an electric guitar could be. This meticulously crafted reissue honors the originality of the 1963 Firebird VII while elevating its appearance for modern players who appreciate historic accuracy and modern construction.
The body features classic mahogany wings with a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish that enhances the depth of the Double Gold color and lets the instrument’s natural character resonate freely. True to the original, the neck-through-body construction uses a nine-ply mahogany-and-walnut combination, delivering remarkable sustain and stability. It is shaped to the Authentic 1963 Firebird neck profile for a substantial yet comfortable hand feel, while the ebony fretboard adds snap, clarity, and a premium playing surface. Reissue medium jumbo frets, mother-of-pearl block inlays, a single-ply bound fretboard, and a 24.75-inch scale length complete the historically correct details.
A trio of Firebird minihumbucker™ pickups delivers the articulate, cutting, and dynamic voice that defined the earliest reverse-body Firebird models. Bright and focused, these pickups excel at everything from crystalline cleans to aggressive overdrive, with a character that responds immediately to picking nuance. The traditional control layout of two volume knobs, two tone knobs, and a three-way toggle switch provides intuitive command of the instrument’s wide tonal range.
For players seeking enhanced expressiveness and refined pitch modulation, this reissue features the Maestro™ Vibrola™ tailpiece, an essential component of the original Firebird VII. Combined with the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and nickel hardware, it contributes both style and expressiveness to the instrument’s performance. Gold Top Hat knobs with silver inserts and Firebird “banjo-style” planetary tuning machines round out the period-correct aesthetic.
Each 1963 Firebird VII Reissue includes a Lifton™ reissue hardshell case and a Certificate of Authenticity, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Gibson Custom. Bold, iconic, and unmistakably elegant, this limited edition highlights the Firebird’s enduring legacy as one of Gibson’s most innovative designs.
